WATCH – Ashwin pins Broad plumb in front
WATCH – Remember Root’s mic drop? Here’s Kohli’s response (India only)
John Raju: “First session to England, second session shared and final session to India. Improving as the day went on :)”
Vishal Pawar: “That drop catch tells you the story of how Indian bowlers took wickets today, not a single dismissal where batsman was caught bt keeper or slip fielders. Bowled, LBW, a run out and a c&b. That’s one way to keep away from frustration of drop catches. They need to keep doing it unless Indian fielders cling onto the catches in coming times.”
Siddhesh v: “It’s not just the catching, but the general awareness of who is around you that is lacking too with the Indian fielding. Can’t help but feel that it’s one area where India has not improved at all. “
6:33pm, Stumps Whew, it’s been a good day. Neither team has allowed the other to take full advantage after they’ve set up. And there have been a few set-ups. Two half-century stands for England, one century stand, and yet they’ve ended up losing nine. For India – they won’t be too happy with conceding 285. But they’ll feel like they’re ahead in the game right now. And they might be, too.
Kohli said he would’ve bowled first because of the overcast conditions, but his first-change bowler today was R Ashwin, inside the 10th over. And it was that man that led India’s attack on a sporadic day for their four fast bowlers. Four wickets for him, getting them with flight, turn, drift, grip and in case of the last one, even swing. 25 overs for four wickets on the first day of an overseas Test – he’ll enjoy this. We’ll see you tomorrow.
Mohammed Shami to Curran, no run, length ball at the stumps, blocked solidly on the front foot
Not a popular decision with the crowd.
Mohammed Shami to Curran, no run, wide of the crease, around the wicket. Length ball outside off, thick outside edge down to third man as he defends…and he doesn’t run
Mohammed Shami to Curran, no run, crunched! But on the bounce to extra cover. Sublime timing. This is a length ball outside off, he’s nicely behind the line
Shami for what should be the last over today
Rohan Bhatt: “Arun, is there anyway you can tell us what was the speed of Ashiwn’s “Outswinger”? Since we are stuck at work in Dallas, can’t watch live but to follow you on Cricinfo… ya know! Help the mate out bruhhh!” — It’s bowled at a normal spinner’s pace, never greater than 95kph from what I can tell.
Anish: “Is it just me, that feel like Ishant looking like Gillespie.”
Ashwin to Curran, 1 run, length on leg stump, flicked to deep square leg
Teja: “is 18k considered a very good numbers of spectators in england for test matches or is it less?” — It’s quite good for Wednesday.
Sharma to Anderson, no run, length on off stump, blocked into the covers
Vivek: “so ashwin practiced leg spinners and bowling seamers :-)” — Depending on the closest series/tournament and its venue.
Sharma to Anderson, no run, length ball down leg side, left alone
More cheers, even before the run is complete. 18k+ people have come in today to watch Anderson bat.
Sharma to Curran, 1 run, length ball hooping away from off stump. Rolls into the leg side off the thick inside edge
