Sri Lanka’s headaches ahead of the third Test against West Indies have increased with an injury to Rangana Herath, who has hurt his right hand and is doubtful for the match. According to an SLC release, Herath split the webbing between the fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand during a practice session ahead of the third Test.
With captain Dinesh Chandimal’s participation in serious doubt after he received a suspension for ball tampering and was also charged with a level 3 offence for refusing to take the field on the third day in St Lucia, Herath was one of the candidates to take over as captain for the third Test. With the left-arm spinner also in doubt, vice-captain Suranga Lakmal may have to lead a depleted Sri Lanka side in Chandimal’s probable absence.
Chandimal had appealed against the suspension after he was charged for ball tampering in the second Test and his hearing is due on Friday, a day before the third Test begins in Bridgetown.
