3rd Match (N), Nidahas Twenty20 Tri-Series at Colombo, Mar 10 2018 | Match Summary

Scorer: Chandan Duorah | Commentator: Deivarayan Muthu

11.03pm What.a.game. What.an.innings from Mushfiqur. What celebrations from him. Mushfiqur was suffering from cramps but he overcame it and manipulated the field expertly in his 72 off 35 balls at a strike-rate of 205.71. It was Liton Das who had set the early tempo for the chase with an equally punchy 43. A shocked Sri Lanka will try to make sense of how they let this game slip after piling on 214 for 6 – the highest T20I score at this venue.

Bangladesh’s stunning turnaround sets up the Nidahas Trophy nicely: all three teams are locked with one win each. Do come back on Monday for Sri Lanka v India. This is Deivarayan Muthu saying phew.

11.10pm Presentations:

Mushfiq (who else?) is the Player of the Match: Really, we badly needed that win. Credit goes to the batsmen for holding their nerve. The way Liton and Tamim set it up for us was outstanding. It was a nice track to bat on. I dedicate this knock to my son; he’s just 35 days old. At the end of the day, winning is the most important. I was just having a cramp, and hopefully I will recover for the next match.

Chandimal: It was a really good game of cricket and credit to the batsmen. It was a really good wicket but as a bowling unit we did not execute well. I am sure they will come back in the next game. We tried but the wicket was too good to bat. The Kusals are in good form and it really gives the batting unit confidence. So, looking forward to the next game.

Mahmudullah: I think it was a game of quite a bit of nerves. The bowlers did try in the first innings but it was a really good wicket to bat on. It was great the result came in our way. To be honest, from the beginning we thought we could win. Tamim and Liton gave us a good start. Then Mushy was outstanding. It was amazing to see and good inspiration for us. We knew they might bowl Akila Dananjaya in the first or second over, and that’s why we sent Liton at the top of the order.

Ruchit: “Mushfiqur Rahim is currently the best wicketkeeper batsman from the subcontinent.. Even better than my favorite MSD !! He is a massive contributor at the moment to Bangladesh’s fortunes.. He may end being a legend like MSD !”

Vijay: “This time Mushfiqur started the celebrations only after hitting the winning runs unlike he did against India in world cup…#lessons learnt”

SYED AL NURAIN: “What did Chandimal thought?! Mushi would do another 2016? so keep the midwicket open?”

SudarshanaSL: “Not taking anything away what SL achieved recently. Though batting clicks, it’s a long way to go for SL bowling. Still couldn’t find a half replacement of Malinga. Hathurusinghe has more work in bowling department”

Seth Miller: “4th highest T20 chase ever! Good job Tigers!”

Delwar Hossain: “Bangladesh did it will less wickets and less balls!!!! What a knock!!”

ashik: “It required something special to beat Hathuru’s new Sri Lanka. At last, BD delivered that special ….”

Junaied: “Yes BD did deliver that something special. But I still feel that inclusion of Sabbir and Taskin was their mistake. “

Vivek: “Takes you back to Ind vs Bang, doesn’t it? This was much better effort to finish the match with so much thought with conviction and sensibility.”

NLTC Perera to Mushfiqur Rahim, 1 run, a limping Mushfiqur pulls off a record chase for Bangladesh! He buries the ghost of Bangalore 2016. Look at him celebrating like a madman. Scenes at the Premadasa, He swipes his bat in the air and screams right in the face of Thisara. Mushfiq then brings out the nagin celebration, a la Nazmul Islam. How did he win it for Bangladesh? Low full-toss, angling in at off stump, he coolly flicks it away through the vacant spaces at midwicket. Heartbreak for Thisara and Sri Lanka
